Great places to visit and things to do over this May Bank Holiday weekend

The fabulous Easter weekend may be just a distant memory but do not despair there is another Bank Holiday weekend just around the corner. Whilst we cannot promise the fabulous weather we had over the Easter holidays we can give you plenty of ideas and tips on making this Bank Holiday weekend equally as memorable.

A must for all Star Wars fans is the May the 4th Festival. Fun events for all-ages are taking place from 3rd-5th May across lively villages in County Kerry and County Donegal. Visit the home base for the cast and crew while they shot on the extraordinary Skelligs in ‘Porgmagee’ (that’s Portmagee to the uninitiated!); or take a spin in your Millennium Falcon up the coast to atmospheric Malin Head – the most northerly tip of Ireland. Pitch up your tent, hook up your caravan or motorhome in one of the many quality approved sites in Kerry and Donegal and celebrate the Star Wars legacy at this out-of-this-world festival.

Speaking of Kerry, Cahersiveen Mountain Roots Music Weekend is now in its 6th year. Hosted by Teacht That Sáile Folk Club there will be great music sessions and entertainment throughout the weekend in Cahersiveen. Stay at one of the wonderful sites along the Wild Atlantic Way and take in the music and fun of Cahersiveen over the weekend.

Taking a trip to Northern Ireland, don’t forget to take in the new stained glass windows to mark season eight of Game of Thrones, in key locations around Belfast. Each ‘Glass of Thrones’ highlights a key House from the show. By the May weekend 3 windows will have been unveiled. Don’t forget to take a trip to visit the Dark Hedges, another iconic landscape from Game of Thrones. You can also drop into the Bushmills Distillery for a tour and maybe even a little tipple. Spend a few days in one of the great caravan sites in Antrim and travel into Belfast or up to the northern tip to take in these great spots. If it’s spectacular scenery you are after take a walk on the ‘Stairway to Heaven’ in Fermanagh. The boardwalk is located in Cuilcagh Mountain Park and is a fabulous walking route. Again you will find a good selection of top quality sites in Fermanagh to pitch up your tent or hook up your caravan. Stay a night, stay a week.
