Not quite ready to park up the motorhome or caravan for the winter just yet, well there is still plenty of time to experience all that Ireland has to offer in the comfort of your own ‘home on wheels’. To help you decide where you would like to visit over the next few weeks, here are some details on what is taking place around the country and ideas on things to do and see.
Some great festivals and events are taking place during September and October. Dingle Tradfest takes place from 7th to 10th September; the festival will host a series of concerts, session trail and dance workshops. Staying at one of the many caravan & camping parks around Kerry you can park up your caravan or motorhome and soak up the great atmosphere and music around the county.
In Mayo, the Westport Festival of Chamber Music takes place on the weekend of 8th & 9th September. Events take place at Westport House, the town theatre and the Holy Trinity Church where memorable music making will be brought to life. With many of the caravan sites situated on or near the Wild Atlantic Way use your stay in Mayo to experience the many soaring cliffs and buzzing towns along the route.
Over the same weekend Elemental Festival takes place in Limerick. The title, Elemental, relates to the fact that all the elements of Nature – earth, fire, water, air and metal, are the jump-off point for the festival. So whether you stay in Limerick or in Clare and travel into Limerick you will find plenty of great campsites to overnight for a night or longer.
A great festival for all you literary enthusiasts is the Cork International Short Story Festival. This takes place in Cork City from 13th to 16th September and showcases readings, literary forums and workshops. Park up your motorhome or caravan in some of Cork’s finest caravan parks and travel into the city to experience all that Cork city has to offer.
For all you Game of Throne fans a visit to the Game of Thrones Tapestry at the Ulster Museum in Belfast is a must. Weaving the story from Seasons 1 to 6, this impressive tapestry gives Game of Thrones® fans the perfect chance to reminisce over all the action that led to Season 7. With new sections then added each week as Season 7 airs, it’s a unique way to experience the trials and tribulations of the very latest episodes. Northern Ireland has some great caravan sites ready to welcome you to the area. Stay in Antrim, Armagh, Down, Tyrone, Fermanagh and travel around the region experiencing the great northern hospitality.
Culture Night takes place on Friday 22nd September in various venues across Ireland and has one of the biggest programmes since it started. Arts and cultural organisations open their doors with hundreds of free events, tours, talks & performances for you, your family and friends to enjoy. With events taking place in every county the biggest decision to make will be which one to choose. Make a weekend of it and stay for a few nights and enjoy activities and events in the area.
If you would like the quieter pace of life and want to make the most of the last of the bright days, well there are plenty of great walking routes and trails you can experience. Many of the 100 caravan & camping parks throughout Ireland are located beside or near walking trails and marked walking routes. Park up your motorhome or caravan and get out and about. Take your bike and cycle the designated cycling routes in Waterford and Mayo.
